How do I contribute photos

I have found a bunch of old pictures (1900s-1970s). The names are often written on the back by my grandmother. I like this site and want to give back.

@Todd Parsons1 Wow! What a treasure to have old photos. You are so kind to want to contribute them. I have often used the memories app on my phone to take pictures of old photographs, save them and upload them easily to FamilySearch. Do you have a tree in FamilySearch? I would assume that the photos are of your family. Once you load them into memories, you can tag them and they will appear in the memories of the corresponding person in the tree. It’s fun to do and adds so much to the records. We appreciate you sharing your pictures. Here is an article that might help.

@Todd Parsons1 I have been using FamilySearch for years to save and document my family photos for posterity. I highly recommend it! You can make them private or public, you can make them searchable by titling and tagging them to your family member on your tree. You can record stories about your photos by journaling or by voice recording. I recommend starting with the memories overview, which you can access by clicking the memories tab and opening the drop-down box. There, you will find an overview that explains the different ways you can effectively organize your photos in FamilySearch Memories. You can also click on the question mark (?) found at the top of the top right-hand side of the FamilySearch sign-in page. You will find lots of help articles to get you started. Good luck, and may you enjoy the journey!!

But please always keep your own backup copies of all photos you upload, especially as FS may restrict/remove items that it considers non-compliant with its upload policies (see https://www.familysearch.org/en/legal/familysearch-upload-guidelines-and-policies).

Thanks all. I have much to learn. I have over 40 boxes of photos, letters, poems, sheet music. Using genealogy, facial recognition, and chats with my 91 yr old father has been very helpful. I will work on learning how to upload.

I have a good photo of my late Aunt’s high school teacher that was taken about 1938-39. Since this person was not in my family, may I add her photo? If so, how can I add this?

@discoveroots You would need to add the photo as a Memory to the teacher's profile (person entry) in Family Tree. It is fine to do this as a non-family member, but I suggest you add an explanatory comment.
