How Can I Get Mis-Indexed Counties Corrected
I've run across many instances of an 1880 census record for Tipton County, Tennessee mis-indexed as Grainger County. For example:
* '''1880 Census''': "United States, Census, 1880"<br/>citing Volume: 1; Affiliate Name: The U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA); Affiliate Publication Number: T9; Affiliate Line Number: 00012; Digital film/folder number: 005162516; FHL microfilm: 1255282; Image number: 533; Record number: 49456229; Sheet number: 354; Sheet letter: C<br/>{{FamilySearch Record|MDWF-88T}} (accessed 11 March 2026)<br/>{{FamilySearch Image|33SQ-GYBJ-6BP}}<br/>William H Turnage (23) son, Farmer, in household of Henry M. The image clearly shows it as Tipton County. How can I get someone to fix this?

Ah, yes. Grainger, Tennessee in the 1880 Census is an oldie but a goodie.
The treatment being developed will hopefully recover much of the originally indexed data, so we ask for your patience a little longer!

As shown in the census extract, the place has been indexed correctly as Tipton County. There has been an unfortunate gremlin that has added a different place to many different record sets. A team is working on the corrections.
@SerraNola I'm sure this one is already on your list. Thanks.
