Linking wife to patron
A man in my branch wants to add his wife to his tree. He added her to his tree but none of her family is coming up. His wife's tree is extensive. The wife's ID# is different than the ID# the man has in his tree. We tried to merge the two IDs but when we put in her ID# from her account, it says that no such record found. Is there a way to fix this? I know I can see my husband's family in my tree. Should he delete the wife he has in his tree and then add in the ID# his wife has in her extensive tree? I hope I'm making sense. Thank you.

@Lewis.9192 This can be fixed fairly simply. There are two profiles with differing PIDs that represent the man's wife. She would have created one when she signed up to FamilySearch and connected it to her parents; he would have created one at some point, but apparently he has not connected it to her parents. The two profiles are quite separate because they are for living people, and so each resides in the private space of the user who created them. Updating one profile has no effect on the other.
Assuming that his wife's parents are deceased, he can simply add them as parents of the profile that he created for his wife. Should either of her parents still be living, he can create living, private profiles for them and connect them to his wife's profile and to their respective parents.
Profiles that are in different spaces (such as the man's private space, his wife's private space, and the public tree of deceased people) cannot be merged. That is why an attempted merge of the wife's profile failed. Only the person who created a private profile can see it.

It may help for you and the patron to read the information explaining private spaces in the FamilySearch tree. Each user has a private space that only he or she can see, containing profiles created for living persons.

Thank you for responding to my question. I understand about the privacy policy. But I am able to see my husband's line (he's still living) and and he can see my line while he's logged into his FS account. I don't understand why one person can and one can't. I guess I'm missing something.

Is the living profile ID number for your husband that is visible to you when you are logged into your account the exact same living profile ID number that he uses to log into his account?
If so, then the software is not working correctly and should be reported.1
