I have been searching on roadblocks with common surnames in my family tree. Specifically, Martin and Wagner/Wagoner/Waggoner in my family tree for over 30 years. I have a Matilda Hiatt that married a William Martin in Washington county, Iowa in early to mid 1800's. I traced them to Indiana (Lagrange) in later census records but I can not find who Williams parents were in ANY documents or where he was born. Then, to make matters worse no one seems to have a death record of either. My Wagner ancestors were John and Nancy (HammelI) Waggoner who lived in Belmont, Ohio where they were married in the beginning years of 1800's. He served in the war of 1812 and I have his military records and her pension application for his service but it lists no birth place of John or Nancy in any records. Some census records have them born in either Maryland, Virginia, or Vermont. I have checked all with no luck. I have searched every data base in areas I know they lived in with census/birth/death/military records, even areas I suspect they may have lived in. Just too many people in the United States with the surname Martin and Wagner. Another problem I run into is the lack of free information available from different counties that seem just to want the money instead of helping people out.

Hi Darin, I think this is your John Waggoner L1S5-HMY.

Looking at his profile you may want to add Alt Names for the different spellings that you have found. This will get the system searching for you.

You can also add a Married Alt Name for Nancy: Nancy Hammel Waggoner.

You might want to change Nancy's last name to Hammel to match the majority of her attached sources and move Hamble as an Alt Name.

I would remove the duplicate marriage entry.

I removed an old marriage source for this reason: This record was a duplicate and has been retired. We recommend using the most current copy.

I found and attached his FindaGrave record.

I have some more suggestions but must run. Msg me if you would like to discuss further. ~ T
