Record hint review (beta)
I am participating in the record hit review, which I like doing. several things to note; first , select "Yes" opens a source link window (are we supposed are perform the source link?) and related if the linkage already exist why is it still showing up. I have found that if a linkage can't be done it keeps showing up in the queue (I've had the same record multiple times in the same session).\
Also, what about obvious living people (marriage date in 1990s), do you link these people?

These are good questions. Unfortunately, we don't have any details on the Record Hint Review.
I played with it a bit. It does appear that when you click the check to indicate that it is a match it jumps you to the SourceLinker to link that record to the person profile. The ones I bumped into, had already been attached. Some had been attached earlier today. So it may be that the system is running out of options to show.
I would recommend that you click on the Feedback button on the left side of the screen and report your errors and questions there. That usually sends the information directly back to the product team that is building that tool.

@DouglasEllis2 I need to know what you mean by beta? Are you using the beta tools or the "Find Temple Opportunities" campaign tools? The campaign tools have record hints as one of the tools. This tool has record hints to review and attach to a possible ancestor. Is this what you are talking about? https://www.familysearch.org/en/campaign/temple-tools

@DouglasEllis2 I don't see anything to do with Record Hints listed when I click on your link, just my Get Involved home page. This may be because I am in a country where this particular opportunity is not enabled, or perhaps you need to be an LDS member to use it. Either way, there is no FamilySearch beta site involvement here as far as I can see, so still unclear what you mean by 'beta'?

@DouglasEllis2 Is this link what you are referring to?
@MandyShaw1 I don't see anything about hints either on my Get Involved page or any reference to "beta".

I don't have any Tree Opportunities visible to me except for Verify Places. I am in England and am not LDS.

@DouglasEllis2 This is very interesting. I looked under my Get Involved opportunities and did not find Record Hint Review Beta. I am a member of the church in the mountain plains area of the US. I am also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so member or not, I can't seem to locate this. I will show this to my team and see if I can get anyone to help me find this program. We definitely want to help you if we can. Keep checking back.

Record Hint Review has nothing to do with whether you are LDS or not; instead, Record Hint Review allows the user to compare the image/original Historical Record with the information indexed from the record to see whether or not this is or could be the same person - Hint means the record might contain helpful information for your search

@NLMartinez I wondered about the same thing - I think/hope it means that we (lots of us users) ask questions and give thoughtful answers - I know I ask lots of questions, especially since we have all this new technology. I know I don't have a lot of answers but I like to help when I can and I like learning new things.

@NLMartinez What do you see if you click the information button (Circled Latin Small Letter I) at the top right of your screenshot?

I'd have thought a Beta (assuming it's like a Lab, just not open to any user to join) would have a Community Group associated with it for the transparent, collaborative and effective handling of feedback, but I can't see one.
It's confusing calling it a Beta if it doesn't use the FS Beta site, especially given the recent problems with the Beta site's missing identifying label.

Thank you for your comments. The moderator (@annelofortewilson) guided in the right direction.

I never got an answer back regarding whether to do the source linking. The BYU linking lab offers the same type of activity (can you do this remotely, not on campus). It is on the same page as "5 a day. The video attached to that opportunity ("5 a day") seems to encourage linking sources to individuals not in your family.

@DouglasEllis2 correct, BYU RLL's projects are in no way aimed at those doing genealogical research on specific families, as far as I can see they just want to get as much stuff into the Tree as they can, as quickly as they can, with quality very much taking a back seat to quantity.

The problem with the presentation of the review is that is seems easy but the truth is far from it. You need to verify the person page before adding possible hints to get first familiar with the family. The dates on the person page could match the record hint but are completely made up and not backed up with sources.
Instead of showing directly the hint and the source linker afterwards, they should present you with the person page only. This should also be the case of the BYU Record Linking Lab. The quality should always prime, not the quantity.
Past week I had a possible duplicate match for an ancestor of mine. At first glance, the name, the birth date and the surname of the parents were the same. Fortunately I saw that the duplicate person had no sources attached and had one child. By researching the child, I was able to determine a few things: 1) the birth date of the mother was 10 years off 2) the mother was still alive when the child died which was after my ancestor died.
On Youtube I found a video concerning this activity:
At 7:20, Devon also recommends to get to know the family by clicking on the person page.

If you have a moment, take a look at this long thread
and you will see a lot more about BYU RLL's egregious activities. We have been trying for a long time to get them (or indeed their contacts in FS) to listen to and act upon our concerns, but so far with very limited success.

Thank you @MandyShaw1 for sharing this post. I didn't know that the relation between FS and the Record Linking Lab was far from optimal, especially given the fact they are mentioned on the following page: https://www.familysearch.org/en/getinvolved/
Yesterday I checked one hint from their GeoHints project for Belgium, as I am from Belgium. The hint brought me to Carolus Laureyns (LJVF-WX7). If one should only have handled the hint, they would not have seen the multiple duplicates (not only for this person but also for the linked family members, I will try to clean up this mess). Another observation that I made is that there were not a lot of hints via Geohints for Belgium (which database do they use?).
Is it possible to tag someone from the team of the Record Hint Review so that they can see our remarks?

With regard to the inaccessible source on Savinie Laureyns (P92S-F4H), which was attached by TreeBuilding on 28 March 2025, the error message that you see depends on how you look at it.
The Sources tab of the profile contains this text:

The citation for the source is "Perú, Lima, Registro Civil, 1683-1998", FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FC7S-4VX : Fri Nov 28 01:51:16 UTC 2025), Entry for Savinie Laureyns and Carlos Laureyns. I note that the timestamp in the citation is more recent than the attachment date. Is this another privacy issue?

@Loïc Baert I get the impression that BYU RLL have considerably better relations with their main contacts in FS than they do with Community members.

Just to clarify: The Beta test called "Record Hint Review" is unavailable for most users. Most probably won't see the "Record Hint Review" option, nor should you worry about it. We will let the Community know when it becomes available. If you have further questions about this topic, please open a new post. Thank you.
