Brand new user, unsure how this works

Forgive my ignorance, and maybe patience. I am trying to research my paternal grandfather. I did find him in a family tree and the information I know is correct. In the tree, my aunt is listed as a child, but my father isn't. After spending time reading and messing around, I believe it is because no one has added my father to FamilySearch, or FamilyTree. When I try to add a child to my grandfather, and provide the information about my father, he is not found. Am I correct that I need to add him? Thanks!

    Welcome, @Kurt7404

We were all new here once! FamilySearch has hundreds of lessons and videos to help you get started. https://www.familysearch.org/en/fieldops/quick-start-learning-lessons-table-of-contents

The short answer is "Yes" - if your father does not have a profile, then you will want to create one to connect your own living profile to your deceased ancestors. If your father is deceased, it's also possible that someone has created a profile for him as a living person. You won't be able to see that since FamilySearch protects the privacy of the living. Only the person who creates a profile for a living person will be able to see it.
