Hello,

I am wondering if someone can transcribe for me the listing for Margaretha Burger (at the bottom of the screenshot). Especially the last column. I believe it lists she died in 1924, but I don't know what the rest of that listing means. Any help I can get would be great!

Hi @StaceyCorcino. I will try my best to translate.

Margaretha was the 13th baptism entry in 1854. She was born and baptized on the 17th of March of that year, the legitimate, female child of Joseph Burger. His occupation is listed as "inquiling"? Others on the page have that as well. According to Google, it might mean tenant farmer or lodger, but I'm not sure. His wife, Margaretha's mother, was Catharina Jakob. They were Roman Catholic religion.

The next page records the place they were living. I think the first line might be the street or possibly town, which I can't read well—something like Kenelijels(?) and the house number is 92. The godparents are Jacobus Scherer (who is the same occupation as Joseph Burger), and Catharina Haidt(?). They are also Roman Catholic. The next column is who did the baptism, copied down from the top, Francis Stekers(?). The last column is generally for remarks. The cross symbol means that she died in 1924. I'd assume the rest is saying it was entry 20 for that year.

Thank you 😊. I thought maybe the cross meant death as I have seen that on other records. The n 20 after thru me. If she is mine she was on the 1920 Census in Milwaukee as a widow living with a son and his family. The family story says she went back "home" but not sure when. I guess I will try to find some passenger lists for her going back to see if she is mine.

    Thank you so much!
