"New" historical record

I must state that none of the emails I have received from FS under the subject “We may have found a new historical record about your relative” has ever been of any use. Never.

Every time I log in after I receive them, I am presented with a list of documents already marked as “Record Dismissed”. This is not an occasional issue; it happens every single time.

Continuing to send notifications that consistently lead to dismissed records serves no practical purpose and only causes unnecessary annoyance to the recipient. And the inhability to find these dismissed records, to review them by myself, even upsets me.

Any chance to review this process?

You can always turn the option to receive those emails off; I did that several years ago. The suggestions were almost always records I had reviewed and attached to the relevant profile.

For those of us who are active in the tree, the suggestions will rarely be something we haven't already seen. I consider the messages as general "marketing fluff," and turning the option off works for me.

@Joan Llacuna Creixell I agree that these notifications can be frustrating- and they don’t work the way we think they should. However, I often tell people to consider that FamilySearch is advertising, as the previous answer suggests…… but it’s also a reminder for us to try to spend a little time attaching records. When we attach records - we document the information in the tree. The records often allow us to add new dates and locations to a person’s information, and occasionally we can even correct the spelling of a name or add new family members. That is one of the most satisfying things about attaching records. I try to look at the updates as opportunities to check family groups and find previously unattached records. As previously stated, you do have the ability to manage the frequency and types of notifications in your FamilySearch account settings…….. best of luck with your research!
