@JudyDworsky You should always begin a family tree with yourself. Add your name and all of your own information and work back from there. Most likely you know your parents names and dates, places of birth and other details. Sometimes it gets harder when we get to grandparents but perhaps your family has a place where this information was stored- a file or a shoebox of family records. Once you get back to those who have passed on, the tree should populate with the shared information of other family members. It’s a wonderful idea to read the link above and also check out the help button at the top of the FamilySearch page. A new tree is an exciting prospect! Have fun and best of luck.

Where should I end a tree and start a new tree with a common connected person?

Assuming you are talking about the main FamilySearch Family Tree, it is a single global collaborative Tree, with no concept of ending one Tree and starting another. Just keep adding properly sourced people and relationships (after checking carefully that they have not already been added by someone else). If you do find you need to add a person with no clear connection anywhere in the existing Tree ('unconnected'), you can do that too, by scrolling to the bottom of your Recents list.
If this doesn't help, please post again.
