Users with Jewish Ancestry in the Trnava region of Slovakia
Hello everyone!
I am taking part in a project aiming to comprehensively document the Jewish community (or communities) Trnava and its surrounding villages and towns in Slovakia. This is an international and inter-institutional project involving a number of European institutions and organizations. We are not merely looking at creating a publication and exhibition, but with any luck, a major genealogical database for the entire region.
We firmly believe that small family collections, artefacts, and keepsakes are the key to unraveling this mystery.
We are looking for people who’s ancestors lied in Trnava or the surrounding towns (Senec, Sered, Pieštany, Vrbove, Hlohovec, Trstin, Cíffer, Zavar, Šurovce, Chtelnica, Dobra Voda, Horna Krupa and Dolna Krupa, Dubova, Boleraz, Smolenice, Dechtice, Špacnice, etc.) who still have old family documents, photos or memorabilia in their possession and would like to help contribute to the project by scanning them in high quality (600dpi) and sending them to us, it would be immensely helpful, as we aim to collect as much material as we can.
We are also interested in reaching out to former residents of the Trnava region to collect their testimonies. If you have any family members who were born, raised or lived there, we would be delighted to interview them and hear their stories.
Lastly, if anyone could volunteer to help translate collected material, we would be more than thrilled. In particular, if you can translate German, Slovak or Hungarian, it would be extremely useful.
