Firefox - Unable to load Hints and then Frozen
I saw a message on FamilySearch around midnight Central Time that maintenance was going to be done. I'm not sure if what is happening is a result of that or just coincidence.
Today, I'm having problems with the FamilySearch website in the Firefox browser on my MacBook Air. I deleted all history, cache, cookies, etc. and it did not fix the problem.
Most everything on FS seems to be working, except it screeches to a halt if I click on any of the hints listed in the "Research Help" box on the "Details" tab.
The page freezes and about a minute or so later, I get a message at the top stating "This page is slowing down Firefox. To speed up your browser, stop this page." with a stop button next to it. Sometimes the side window on the right opens with blinking gray blobs as if it's trying to load. Then a couple minutes later the whole page goes blank.
I tried it on several unrelated profiles and the same thing happens.
Having no problems with FamilySearch on Chrome, but I prefer Firefox.
Please help. Thanks

@Nyx773 Have you tried using Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to disable all extensions temporarily? Also, make sure your Firefox and any extensions are fully updated.
I've been using both Firefox and Chrome (Windows 11) all day yesterday and today without any noticeable difference between the two.0 -
@Áine.ní.Donnghaile Thanks for responding.
Firefox is fully updated = Version 147.0.4 (64-bit). Turned off all extensions. No improvement.

Your description is similar to a problem I had using Full-Text Search a few weeks ago. I was using Chrome at the time.

Hmmm… For me, only the page/tab freezes. I'm able to close the frozen tab. And then I'm able to "Reopen Closed Tab" and it is not frozen.
No other tabs are affected, even if they are on FamilySearch. I'm able to work on a different tab with FS while that one tab is frozen.
I'm seem to be able to do any action on FS, except click on hints.

It is now working again without any additional fixes attempted - no version upgrades, no reboot, etc. Very odd.
But I wonder if it somehow was related to all the problems people were having yesterday.

With the lead-in to RootsTech, we sometimes see glitches - possibly related to tweaks/tests in preparation.
Glad you can work again.1 -
And it's malfunctioning again for the past hour . . . it freezes the page not just for clicking hints that are sources, but also possible duplicates and hints such as "there is a 3 year gap between children"

HI @Nyx773 I haven't had any problems today. Sorry to hear the glitch is back for you.

@SerraNola Unfortunately, it is still a problem 99.99% of the time.
My work around is to do most of the work on Firefox, then copy-paste the URL to Chrome if I need to click on a hint. I don't like the font sizing and spacing on Chrome.

@Nyx773 I am so sorry to hear you are continuing to have problems. I use both Firefox and Chrome with the FS site all day, every day, with very few problems.
I'm working on a PC, Windows 11, Firefox 184.0 64-bit, all fully updated.Have you tried uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling to start fresh?

@Áine.ní.Donnghaile Thanks for the sympathy.
I'm procrastinating on uninstalling/reinstalling. I would need to do a lot of prep work. I didn't create a Firefox profile nor am I logged in with any of my Google profiles - As such I assume that I will lose all my bookmarks and settings.

You can export your bookmarks - that part is easy. It's also relatively quick and easy to create a Firefox profile and capture all your settings.
