    Good evening @pamela harrison_1

Before 1864, you would be looking for a Church record: not a birth certificate, but a baptismal register from the Church.

You mention several counties where the family lived - Leitrim, Kerry, Donegal. It was unusual for Irish families to move far from their home parish. Was James possibly in the Army or the RIC at one time? Members of the RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary) could not serve in their home county.

I presume this is James Harrison's death record, with wife Ellen as the PAD, in Ballintra:

And that this is Michael's birth:

You may wish to post in the group for Ireland Research, where other skilled researchers may have more ideas. https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/104-ireland-research

Best of luck with the search!
