Seeing 'New' Behavior
Up until recently when using the pencil icon to view an item in a profile [e.g. to view a tagged Source] 'Save' would not be highlighted unless I made some sort of change to the item. Now 'Save' is always highlighted. Makes me hesitate… thinking I may have mistakenly changed something. Same behavior on both Firefox and Edge

In my experience this sort of thing often results from a change to the code to make it more modular (and thus more maintainable), with some of the previous look-and-feel detail getting lost in the process, temporarily or permanently. Whatever, this seems to me to have a definite negative effect on the user experience, so flagging it as a bug feels like a good idea - I have done that. (I do wish we could see the non-sensitive flag options' history on posts-'bug' is a good example.)

Yes, you are correct - the save button has not always been highlighted on FamilySearch. The website has undergone updates in 2024 and 2025 focusing on improved user experience, standardization and updated person page layouts. It’s always difficult for me when FamilySearch makes changes, but after I become accustomed to them, I often find that I like the improvement. I think one reason for this change is so that the save button is very obvious to users. This action completes the process. Hopefully it will become easier for you!

@betsy123 Yes… we [I] all get used to the 'old' way of doing things and it takes me a while to figure out where things went and how they now function.
This behavior however has only presented itself recently, 1 month or so. Seems odd to 'highlight' the Save action if there is really nothing to be Saved [i.e. no changes have been made]

@MandyShaw1 One person's 'bug' is another's 'feature'… Is there a proper way to report a perceived 'bug'

@Sam Sulser said we should flag bugs here using the relevant flag option - I know of no other route - others may have more information.
Also, this feels like the removal of a useful feature (i.e. a user experience element that allowed the user to confirm at a glance whether they had edited anything in the relevant box (accidentally or intentionally) or not).
