I agree that questions related to Italian research are better answered in the Italian Research Group. However, for questions concerning FamilySearch record collections, this is the correct place to post.
@MarcoGrazia Most of our Italian records come from state, city, and church archives and local civil records offices. There are a few reasons why there may be time gaps in our collections:
- Some years or record types are restricted by privacy laws or the archive’s own rules.
- Some books or parts of books are missing, damaged or were never kept. If a book is too fragile it cannot be digitized.
- Some collections were microfilmed decades ago when the process was more challenging. Occasionally, a volume may have been accidentally skipped or not recorded correctly. The digital images converted from those older microfilms reflect only what was originally captured.
We know gaps can be frustrating. We share everything we are allowed to share, and when more records become available to us, we add them to the website.

Do you receive records only from the Courts, or also from other entities and possibly from dioceses?
I ask because I often see significant time gaps, and I wanted to understand if this was due to the difficulty of scanning such a large volume of data, or if you simply don't have references for certain years.
Thanks in advance for the answer.0 -
Would be better in https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/74-familysearch-italia since it is an Italian speaking group.
