Issues with tagging
I am struggling recently with tagging issues in FamilySearch. I have done thousands of memories so I know how it's supposed to work. Some of my memories added in the last couple of months are showing with the box around the persons' heads in the wrong place- not in the place I originally put it. And my grandfather and great-grandfather tags are being connected incorrectly. I will click on the photo and label the face with my grandfather's name and select it from the list showing. However the photo will then show as my great grandfather's name with two records in FamilySearch showing in the tag. I thought I would give it a try and add in a new grandfather's tag. So adding a new person and using the ID to connect the tag. And it still shows with my great grandfather's name and both persons showing tagged. I waited a couple of days to see if it would fix itself and it has not….. anyone else having this issue or have any suggestions of how to fix the issue. So far I haven't found it with any other people…. just these two.

@Tamara Stevenson Could you explain what you mean by "However the photo will then show as my great grandfather's name with two records in FamilySearch showing in the tag"? By "two records" do you mean two person profiles? If so, do they have the same Person ID? Is it possible that you might be seeing anything that looks at all like the screen shot below? Look carefully at the labels, such as "Private Person", "Public Person", or "_____ Group".
Did you recently start participating in a Family Group Tree? When you do that, it's entirely normal to see a tag name with two associated persons in Family Tree — one in the FamilySearch Tree, and one in the Family Group Tree. The screen shot above illustrates how that might appear. Note that Family Group Trees generally include living people (which is probably an unlikely possibility for your great-grandfather), but can also include deceased confidential persons, which might be possible for your deceased ancestors.

This is actually two problems.
First problem—yes, we have recently had people report seeing the tag "boxes" shift/move. The Memories Team is currently working on a fix for this. I will let you know more additional information as I get it. Thanks for the patience!

Second problem. Yes, we have seen other users running into this problem of tag names getting mixed up. Unfortunately, there is no easy fix. Sorry! The Memories team is aware and working to correct this problem. We will alert you when there is a fix in place.
With the complicated tag names, this is specifically what the Engineers have said:
"There is no way to change the tag name right now. We are working on bringing this feature back, and on making it easier to find and use."
"The only time you should delete tags is if two different people were added to the SAME tag. So, if I tagged myself but that tag includes my PID and my husband's PID. Then I have to delete all the corrupted tags and start again from scratch, because there's no other way to split the two people apart."
I think this is what is happening in your situation. Hopefully, it is not widespread and you can manage a delete/re-add process.
Here is some more information on what likely happened. Though, again, there is no real fix:
First, what happened is a very complicated problem that probably began with a few small errors in tagging.
Someone at some time wanted to create a “tag,” but they clicked on two different people for the same tag. You can do this, but it isn’t how the system was created to work. Only one person at a time should be tagged.
To make the matter more complicated, someone at some time probably then used the “Attach to Another Tree” option, and clicked multiple people at that time, as well. Essentially, many people on the Tree with different IDs were all given the same tag.
To summarize, by clicking multiple different people under one tag, the computer thinks they are the same person. And unfortunately, when you delete that one tag, you will delete the tag for all those attached to that tag. As you see, this can make a very complex problem.
Going forward:
-When you create a tag, you should only click on one person. Each person should have their own individual tag.
-If you want to “Attach to Another Tree,” make sure you are only clicking on the same version of that person (ie, there are many versions of myself in the Tree: my Private Person, and then additional versions because I have several Family Group Trees.) – I would only want to select those same versions of me when using “Attach to Another Tree.”
If you need additional help, please provide the PIDs of those individuals who have the incorrect tags. Someone on the Memories Team might be able to help.
Again, sorry for the struggles!

Here is one fix that I have used before (to fix a wrong tag name), but it isn’t very easy or intuitive:
-Delete the tag that has the incorrect name.
-Click in the Memory to create a new tag, BUT when you start typing the CORRECT name, do NOT click on any of the names generated in the tag pop-up box.
-Continue to write the correct name completely. At the bottom of the tag pop-up box, you will see an option to “Add New” as well as the name you have typed. Click the box next to the “Add New,” then click “Tag Selected” at the bottom of the pop-up.
-In the right side-bar, you will see the new tag. Click the “Attach to Tree” link. Then insert the correct Person ID number.
-Now, both the tag and the tag name will be the same.

Thanks for your responses- nice to know these are known issues.
And thanks for the suggestion to create a new tag- I did work through that on a couple of photos, but unfortunately they reverted back to the incorrect ones the next time I opened the memories. I will wait for a bit and see what the engineers can figure out as I have more than 100 on the one person and more than 200 on the other person…. not wanting to have to do a work around on them. At least not until I know the glitches have been fixed.
Also please note- these were photos that were previously tagged and showing up correctly. Only did the issues show with the recent changes.

Here's the two PIDs - Leland Leroy Green KWZS-QYF & John William Green KWC6-CGB
If someone on the Memories Team would like to take a look at them, that would be great. If not, I will just wait to hear the issues have been fixed before going through and redoing all of the tags on my own if necessary.
A little concerning that these photos were tagged and appearing correctly prior to the recent changes to Memories. Along with the frustration of having "lost" some Memories in the past with other changes on FamilySearch. Makes me a little more nervous about continuing to add in more Memories if issues will continue in the future…. what happens when I can't fix them in the future?

Hi again…I'm wondering if you can help test two tagging situations….you and anyone else!
First, you mentioned above that the tag "boxes" were behaving strangely. Yes, that was a known issue, but we think it has been resolved. I can't replicate the problem anymore. Can you see if your tag boxes are behaving appropriately again? Please share any reports—thanks!
Second, a small fix has been made regarding tagging. I say "small" because I am not sure it will help in your above circumstance.
Nonetheless, I can report that we now have the ability to change the tag name….if you click on the tag (the gear icon next to the tag name in the right side-bar), you will now see a pencil edit button next to the tag name. (YOU WILL ONLY SEE THIS BUTTON IF YOU CREATED THE TAG). You can edit the tag name as well as see all instances where that tag is being used.
Unfortuntely, some tags have several individuals attached to them, and then the tagging issues gets complicated/messy. But maybe some of our users can play with this feature and see if it is helping….
Thanks again to our community for helping test and report!
