Cannot merge my living mother LN8W-6YW and GYL8-48M

(Information of living removed) The reason FS gave for the merge failure was because she was in two different trees. I added all the information for her, my siblings etc. Please advise about how I can merge these two people. She is living, and she is my mother.

Thank you very much. Rae Roe

    Hi @Rae Roe,

I may be wrong on this but I don't think you can merge any living person with another person, even if that person is the same person with a different PID. I know that in my own personal tree, if I have a relative who is listed as living in my tree but have since passed away, when I go to merge my living person with the deceased person, I am unable to do so until the living person is marked as deceased.

As the error message informed you, no, you cannot merge profiles, living or deceased, that are in two different trees.

There are currently four different types of tree spaces in Family Tree:

    1. The main tree. This contains only deceased people.
    2. The account specific "tree" which contains all the living people a user has entered under his or her individual account.
    3. Family Group Trees. These contain only living people.
    4. CET Trees. These can contain both living and deceased people

If you have created duplicate living people in your account space you can merge them by using the Merge By ID tool.

If you have duplicate living people in the same Family Group tree, you can merge them by using the Merge By ID tool.

If you have duplicate living people in the same CET tree, you can merge them by using the Merge By ID tool.

If you have two different accounts and created the same living person in each of those accounts, you cannot merge them because they are in different trees.

If you have a living person in your account space and in a Family Group or CET tree you belong to, you cannot merge them because they are in different trees.

If you have living people in a Family Group or CET tree and duplicates of them in a different Family Group or CET tree, you cannot merge them because they are in different trees.
