Sharing story on Messenger Chat

I've added a story for an ancestor on FS. I would like to share this story with family members on Messenger Chat. I have tried to Share this story to Chat but it only shares one photo, not the story itself. How can the story be shared, even without photos? Thx

    @sfitzgerald Could you not put the Memory URL in the message, so they can click through into the Memory? You'd probably need to copy and paste it rather than doing a direct Share.

    I've just been trying Share on Memories from the FS mobile app, with a PDF Memory, and I see what you mean, the information shared via Messenger Chat and other messaging services is pretty inadequate (just a thumbnail of page 1 in my case). When I shared via Outlook, though, the URL was included.

    @AmberML1 any thoughts?

    @sfitzgerald If you are describing an experience with a mobile app, it is very helpful for you to mention that, along with the OS. It seems like you are talking about your experience with the Android Family Tree app. If you don't mention the app, others will likely assume you are talking about the website, since the vast majority of the posts on FamilySearch Community relate to the website, not the apps. And there are significant differences between the iOS and Android Family Tree apps, so it is always helpful to note the OS.

    @MandyShaw1 The process of sharing on an Android app involves some complicated engineering, because how it works is a combination of how the sharing app (in this case, Family Tree) presents the information, and also how the receiving app (which could be Outlook or Gmail or Messages or Messenger Chat or many others) processes that shared information. It's fairly typical for an email application to take all the information that the sharing app provides. But messaging applications don't generally have a subject line, and they handle images differently from the way email apps do it.

    There are certainly some things that the Android Family Tree app could do better with sharing, but some of the fault lies with the receiving apps as well. A story with no image shares quite well from Family Tree to Messages or Messenger Chat — some introductory text along with the URL to the story becomes the default message. When I share a story with an image to Messages, I also get a nice experience with that image attached to the message and some text that includes the URL to the story; but when I do the exact same thing to Messenger Chat, I get just the image with no text at all. Is the fault in Family Tree or Messenger Chat that the text gets lost in this case, as contrasted with Messages? I don't know, but I wouldn't jump to placing the blame on either Family Tree or Messenger Chat without knowing more about the details, but my guess is that both apps are somewhat at fault.
