Help!! Several family members have been looking for my 3rd great grandfather's parents. We know his wife, children, where they moved to, and where buried. We just can't get beyond him. He was born 1812 in Mulberry Gap, TN. His mother may have been Cherokee. His name is George Washington Nelson 1812 to 1899. Several of our searchers have died and I am going to be 70 my birthday. If we are going to solve this, we need help. The parents listed in Ancestry and FS are not correct if you follow the sources.

    Hi @janie ruthie

I suggest you compile your information and post in the Southern States Research group, where folks with experience in the region will support your search.

    Hope this helps!

I know that area, the grand Cumberland Gap corridor. My folks are there on both side of VA and TN border.

Might as well consider the possibility of the Melungeon group, too.

    Hi @janie ruthie,

FamilySearch has just come out with a new search tool. It is called full text search and you will find it in the drop down box under search on FamilySearch.

Here is a link with a few videos that talk about full text search and how to use it https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-use-fulltext-search . Good luck with your research.
