I am looking to search for all the instances of a particular surname in one particular county for the 1810 census? For example I want to know who all the people with the surname Phillips were in the 1810 census in Fairfield County, Connecticut. How do I accomplish this kind of search.

Here is a link to a page of this census: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:33SQ-GYYG-BZ5?view=index&cc=1803765&lang=en&groupId=M9ZR-RZN

    Good morning @Brian3848

You can put that county and state in the Residence field. The problem with that - currently - is that many records have been moved to an incorrect location by an algorithm. If you try to isolate to a specific county in a specific state, you may get no results because of that flaw. Engineers are working on a fix.

You can also isolate your search to a particular county by including the DGS in your search. The 1810 census is https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/koha:118496

If you start from that URL, you'll see a list of all the states and counties. If you enter that DGS number in your search parameters, you will see just the records from that location.

    Hope this helps.

@Brian3848 Don't miss Hesekiah Phillips who was indexed as Hsekiah Thillips. Wildcards help enlarge your search net. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XH2H-MYN?lang=en
