My namesake, Shaw has been traced back to my 2nd Great Grandfather who was born in 1851. I am unable to find any confirming records to determine his parents, even after using some African American resources for Maryland.

On my mother's side I have been able to trace back to my 5th great grand mother in North Carolina who was born in 1797. Many of the slave deeds I have searched only use one name. Any advice on helping to expand my tree for records like this? I have other relatives I won't list but have similar road blocks.

@Es3kc Might I suggest asking this question in the African American Group? They will definitely have some tricks you can implement and ways to get around roadblocks!
