Only 564 records for the 1870 U.S. Census for Louisa County, Virginia are returned in a search, https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/record/results?count=100&q.anyPlace=Louisa%2C%20Virginia%2C%20United%20States&q.anyPlace.exact=on&c.collectionId=on&f.collectionId=1438024

However, browsing this collection, https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/index?owc=KP81-C68%3A518656301%2C519645801%3Fcc%3D1438024&cc=1438024

there are thousands more records. The Northern District has 216 images and the Southern District has 204 images, all fully indexed. (420 images x 40 lines per image = 16,800 records!). Please re-index these records so they are findable in Search.

Thanks, Anne

    It is likely not re-indexing that is needed. More likely, the issue is with the autostandardization of places issue discussed in many threads.

    @SerraNola Can you confirm? Thanks.

    @Anne986 Yes, Áine is correct about auto-standardization being the culprit but the 1870 census is different from the others. The error is actually found in the index, meaning if the correct place name is used in Search the name will not be retrieved.

    To search all of Louise County, use Film #4268791 in your search criteria and do NOT use Louise County.

    SerraNola, Thank you very much for explaining the problem and the technique of searching a film number, rather than the place name. - Anne

    Áine,

    Thank you for suggesting that possibility, which seems correct. The particular record that I was looking for, https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MFGL-RMK?lang=en, was geo-indexed incorrectly:

    Event Place

    Southern District, Pittsylvania, Virginia, United States

    Event Place (Original)

    Southern District, Louisa, Virginia, United

    Thanks, Anne

    Any time you see a record with Event Place (Original) and another place that doesn't match, the autostandardization routine is the culprit.
