Link memories page to YouTube video

Is there a way to create a clickable link in a memories story page? I have a video on YouTube, but when I paste the link to it in memories (using the story page), it only pastes as text. I tried adding the html code, but that didn't work to make the URL a clickable link. Is there another way? Thanks

I just tested adding a "clickable link" and this is how I was able to do it….

I did not create a "Story" in Memories. I created a story on a Word Doc, and added a clickable link there. I saved it as PDF file.

Then I uploaded my PDF file as a Memory in my Gallery. The link works great.

This might be a better option…..besides, many users report that it is much easier to create a Story on a Word doc (where you can add images exactly where you want them as well as clickable links)…then save it as a PDF, and then upload that PDF as a Memory.

Content MAY NOT contain images, depictions, or descriptions of

    1.  Nudity or immodesty. Clothing depicted in photos should be zipped and buttoned properly.

    2.  Sacred or other religious content.

    a.  Clothing
    b.  Rites
    c.  Patriarchal blessing

    3.  Cross-dressing.

    4.  Links to outside websites (i.e. no URLs).

The warning is that just because the PDF containing a link gets loaded, it might not stay loaded.

I had loaded a PDF discussing someone's parentage. The PDF cited its sources with a URL and everything was fine for months until I got an email saying that the PDF broke the standards and would be deleted. Naturally, the email didn't say what was wrong with the PDF, it was only discussion in the community here that led us to the conclusion that the issue was the URL, which pointed to the California Digital Newspaper site.

I therefore appealed the decision and asked for the document to be reviewed by a human being. Quite quickly, they came back saying, yes, it was OK, that a mistake had been made and the PDF would be reinstated.

So you may get a false sense of security until enough time has passed for you to forget what it was about. In my case, the fact was that the URL pointed to a reputable site that I could not influence. A video on YouTube could be changed to anything at any time, so is going to be much more problematic. If I were in FS Support, I think I wouldn't accept it... Sorry.

Amber, thanks for the suggestion; I will use it. A good work around for adding a clickable link.

Adrian, the YouTube video is one that I created, and uploaded to my YouTube channel, of my father telling his life story. I don't foresee FamilySearch having a problem with it, but who knows.

@Diane Manley - putting my security hat on, the issue is not what the video is today, because FS Security can check it. The issue is what is it tomorrow if it can be updated in place without altering the URL.

Apologies! @Miss Jessie is correct on the upload guidelines.

I was caught up in answering/providing a solution, that I forgot the rules! Just because we can add a URL link, does not mean it is permitted by FamilySearch. And yes, if you do add a URL to your PDF, FamilySearch can restrict that Memory. It does happen.

I can't think of any other good solution for this problem. If others can, maybe you can give better direction to @Diane Manley.

    I would do the following:

1.Add the link to the (or a) relevant profile's Sources as an external source (ideally archiving it to archive.org first and using that URL to make the source, for future-proofing purposes). Give the source a clear and specific title.

2.Refer to the source in the Story by the relevant profile ID + the source title.

I hope you saw the suggestion from @MandyShaw1

It is a good reminder….though FamilySearch does not want url links in Memories (see the Upload Guidelines), you can still add a link through the Sources.

On a person's page in Family Tree, click the "Sources" option (you will find it under the person's name at the top of the page). Click "+Add Source" then "Add New Source." From there, you can put in a link and lots of information.

I hope this provides a good solution for you.
