How do I access records/surnames?

I know I may not be the brightest Crayola in the box, but it appears to me that after all these years they have made it next to impossible, except for maybe employees or LDS members to access records. Why do you allow me to logon but make it impossible to access any data?

    Good afternoon, @Linda Williams-Gamez

There are many - most - records available to everyone from home. There are some records that are restricted to view at an Affiliate Library or FamilySearch Center. Those restrictions come from the contracts with the original record holders - a city, state, church, country.
If you can share some specifics, we may be able to help you find the records you need. There are also a few people active here who regularly visit the AL or FSC and retrieve records that others need.

    Hope this helps.
