Hi All!

So I am seeking out the continued family line upwards of James Buchanan (b. ~1798 d. ~1850) and wife Susan Gorman Buchanan (b. ~1806 d. 9 Oct 1872 Detroit, Wayne, Michigan, USA). James died in Ireland (so I have read in biographies of his children) yet Susan came over to Detroit, Michigan with her children in 1851.The couple had 10 children: William (my direct line), Patrick, Mary, Susan, Catherine, Ann, Jane, John, Thomas, and Margaret. Margaret has had biographies written about her that claim she is from Drumquinn, Ulster, Ireland - yet I also cannot find any baptism records of the children in this area.

The family was known to be catholic in Detroit and grew up going to church so I'd assume they belonged to a Catholic Church in Ireland.

I have checked all church records and am finding nothing of James and Susan's marriage or James' baptism either. I found a possible record for Susan's baptism in Armagh, Ireland (showing a Roger Gorman and a Bridget Hart as her parents). My goal is to find what wave of Buchanan's they came from Scotland to Ireland with.

Any help or suggestions on where to look is appreciated!

    Hello @Hillary4988

The time period you are enquiring about is an interesting period in Irish history. Unfortunately, records are less than fully abundant for this period.

Have you built the family tree of James and Susan Buchanan in FamilySearch? It would be very helpful if you could give their FamilySearch IDs so that others can see the broader context and try to assist you with your questions.

Surviving, online, baptism and marriage registers for Drumquin Parish, in County Tyrone, Ulster Province, only begin in 1846, too late for the family you are researching.
