In my research I have translated Spanish language Catholic Church records in the Philippines drawing on the names of my Great Great Grandfather, and Great Grand Uncles that my Grandmother gave me. I also received and uploaded Anglican and Catholic Church Marriage, Christening records from the Kalk Bay Historical Association to the branch of Eduardo Ramirez and Sarah nee Dawson Ramirez, who were married in 1874 in a Catholic Church in Simonstown, Cape, South Africa, and their sons Dinisio b1876 and Edward b1879. I haven't found a birth or Christening record for my Great Grandfather, Francisco b1873 who is linked/connected with this family, i.e., Sarah moved her sons Dinisio and Edward to Saldanha Bay after her husband Eduardo died.

I have the marriage record of my Great Grandparents Francisco Ramires/Ramirez/Ramidies/Ramedies and Elizabeth Georgina nee Wasserfall Ramides who married in 1896. How do I find a record for the names of his parents, or a birth record, or a Church Christening record for Francisco Ramires/Ramirez/Ramidies/Ramedies b1873 who died in Cape Town in 1936? Our family understanding is that he was born in Madrid Spain and arrived in Saldanha Bay, Cape, South Africa. He may not have been born in South Africa. I've written to the Archbishop of the Diocese of St Andrew in Saldanha Bay, and have had little support. Would anyone suggest alternative approaches I might adopt as I research records for my Great Grandfather and his parents. Using my Spanish language skills I've search Spanish language records in the Philippines and in Madrid Spain.

Thank you.

    Good morning @GailMatthews5

Sometimes we have to work sideways - collateral research - to find the information we need. On the 1902 baptism for Francisco's son, Denisan, one of the baptismal sponsors is John Ramedies. John may be a sibling or cousin, and finding his records may help you locate the name of Francisco's parents.

On the 1908 baptism of daughter Georgina Elizabeth, one of the sponsors was Rachel Ramedies - the same process applies, although she might be the wife of a relative.

Work your way through every record you can find for Francisco and his children looking for similar clues.

You may want to post in the group dedicated to Africa Research where others with experience in the region may be able to help.

For others who may want to assist, the profile for Francisco Ramirez is P9QF-ZN3.

Best of luck with the search.
