In the FamilySearch system a user is evaluating whether a person found in the record is the same as the person found in the tree. Users then attach record people to tree people as a confirmation of the conclusion that they are the same. The only time that a user attaches an entire record to a tree person is when the data on the record has not been transcribed (indexed) and made understandable to the system.

Therefore, attaching Bob in the Record to Bob in the Tree does not automatically attach his wife in the record to his wife in the tree, etc. You will need to look at each person and click the attach button on each. This is important because:
      • often there may be people in records who are not in the tree and need to be added
      • there may be new person data in the record that needs to be copied to the tree person
      • there may be people in the household (like a renter) who should not be added to the family
      • any any other of a number of reasons you should address each person individually.

The SourceLinker tool usually aligns the people in the record with the corresponding persons in the tree. Once you attach the record person to the tree person, all the information about that person is automatically brought along. This includes things like:
    • What data is on the person and what it means
    • Who the person is related to on the record and with what type of relationship
    • What record the person is found in (like a census household record)
    • What image the record pertains to and what other records on the image
    • What collection the image is from and from what archive (ex NARA)
