Where my Grandmother was born and her birth certificate (Record)--Augusta Newman
I am trying to find my Grandmother's birth down and birth record. She was born Augusta (Nellie) Newman (Newmann, Neuman, Neumann, Newhamm). I have documents showing she was born on December 8, 1889 or March 9, 1889. I have records showing her born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Germany or Poland. Her last name suggests German. She is shown on the Canadian 1901 census as immigrating to Canada in 1892. She is also shown on the US 1910 census, immigrating to the US in 1901. I think her father was Michael Newman and her mother was Albertina Hiersch; Hiersch suggests German, maybe German in Russia? Any help would be most appreciated.

Since you don't know where they are from in Russia, it also said:
A major obstacle is that immigrants from the Russian Empire were often not recorded as "Russian." You must search using various different nationalities or ethnic groups:

Primarily the Doukhobors, a religious group who migrated en masse starting in 1899. Their records are distinct and well-documented.
