Birth Location and the Data Quality Score
My ancestor Alexander Kennell ID G9MR-CVX was born in Northern Ireland, United Kingdom in 1833. According to the data quality score help, the quality score does not include persons born in Northern Ireland but does include United Kingdom for the period in question. Almost all of the sources for his birth come from Alexander himself through Civil War records and his death certificate. I consider the quality score a valuable tool — it helps me see inconsistencies and missing data. It feels wrong to me to have to change his place of birth to Ireland to see if I'm missing something as Alexander usually referred to his place of birth as County Armagh, Northern Ireland (first found in his Civil War documents). I'm not sure why Northern Ireland wouldn't be included since it is part of the United Kingdom.
Thanks

@KSwanson5 The dedicated group for DQS questions is
Northern Ireland did not exist in 1833. The place name for that time is Ireland. Northern Ireland was created after the civil conflict and partition in the early 20th century and is used for those 6 counties from 1922 forward.

Thanks so much — I did a review and realized that when he did mention his homeland at times it was as County Armagh, Ulster, Ireland which I took early on (ca 1992) to mean Northern Ireland . Thanks for the information! I didn't realize that Northern Ireland was not formally defined until 1922.
