Indian Tribes on Arizona Birth cert.

I am indexing Arizona Birth Certificates. For the parents color/race , the birth certificate indicates “Hopi Indian” or “Indian”. Should I index as I see it or use “American Indian” or “Native Indian”? How am I to know if they are American or Native Indians. I just want to index correctly.
