North Carolina death records

I've been researching my grandmother's murder in Sanford, NC for about 3 years now. I have been able to compile newspaper articles about the event, but have been unable to locate an autopsy, police report, or death certificate. I looked at the North Carolina death records for the year 1955 this morning, but it appears there are only July and August deaths within that group. I manually went through the last 171 of 3171 total records, and they were all July and August…then I went back and looked through some random ones all the way back to the beginning — all July or August except one March death. I've already spoken to Vital Statistics on the phone as well as the Lee County police department and they all claim there's nothing there. I've checked surrounding counties as well.
Has anyone noticed the 1955 compilation of NC death certificates are missing information? Or am I looking in the wrong place?

Have you checked the collection on Ancestry? Although I don't see a count for Lee County, by month, the overview indicates death records for every month in 1955. For example, the list shows 22 death certificates for December.
If you want to share the name and date, someone else may have more luck.
The date the record was issued may have been delayed if the autopsy required extra time.2 -
No, I don't have an Ancestry membership, just GeneologyBank. She died Oct 6 1955 but her body was exhumed for an autopsy in November. It appears the autopsy was completed in November as well.

As @Áine Ní Donnghaile indicated, the death cert may not have been issued until late 1955 or early 1956 if the autopsy was part of a larger inquest, which may very well be, considering the details you've shared. Again, echoing Aine, Only with a name can we help further.

@Gabrielle9205 were you able to find the information you were looking for? If not, we will try to help you if you give us the name of your grandmother.

I have not found it, LTG150. But I feel strange about giving this type of info about a close relative on a public forum, and also, I just don't think anyone can help me. To be honest, I believe this is a coverup because of details passed to me from my father. I did however visit my local library today and got a library card so I can go one day soon and use their Ancestry account to check for anything I may be missing on FamilySearch and GeneologyBank.
