Nils Erik Persson of Flo, Västernorrland is shown leaving Sweden for Kansas, North America June 1884. How can I find the ship he was on when he left Sweden?

I am trying to see if this Nils Erik connects to the Nels Erick I have in Kansas. On his Declaration of Intention it states he arrived in Boston and left from Stockholm. There is a ship that came 28 July 1884 named Cephalonia that came from Liverpool/Queenstown.

I gave this a shot but after the source you linked I can't find anything. However in the source it says " Kansas i Norra amerika" that could be an indication that he went there

@David2,666 Thank you for trying. I know there is a way to see ship manifests but I don't know how to find them.

There is just enough conflicting information about him that I am really trying to make sure I have it correct.

On his Declaration of Intention in the United States it says that he came from Stockholm to Boston but he doesn't remember the ship name but it looks like he remembers coming from Queens Lv. He states he arrived in July 1884. The ship that I found that might be him arrives 28 July 1884. He states that he was born, in what appears to be, Sollefteå, but he isn't there. He states he was born 6 January 1864.

Comparing that to what I found in Sweden. Nils Erik, born 6 January 1865 in Långsele, which is the parish next to Sollefteå. He leaves Sweden for Kansas 2 June 1884.

In looking at the records I have being born in 1865 seems more likely since his wife is stated to be born in April 1865 and they are the same age or one apart, ie 60 and 59 on the census records.

I have not been able to find his Naturalization papers or his marriage record both of which might give me more verifying information for Nels and his wife, Brita. Also I am lacking in birth records of their children.

I've checked the Emiweb.se database but only found the record you linked above. Emiweb is Scandinavias largest database over emigrants.

@David2,666 Ok. Sounds like I will just have to keep working on this side of the pond. Thank you.

Here are some other thoughts. You could try to find the "Bilagor till in- och utflyttningslängder" for Långsele parish. These are the actual papers and certificates the priest left behind regarding someone's departure from the parish. You can find these at Riksarkivet here.

I know that ArkivDigital has the police registers for emigrants who left from Sweden in their "Emigrants" index. A cursory search did not find any matches for Nils Persson leaving from Stockholm in 1884.

Last, you may consider looking for an estate inventory for any relatives who stayed behind in Sweden. If he was an heir, they may mention him and his place of residence in the United States. It may be enough to confirm you have the right person and emigrant.

According to the clerical survey his father Pehr Anton Jonsson died in 1881. Here is his estate record. Nils Erik was still living in Sweden so there is no mention of that here. Pehr's widow is his second wife and not Nils' mother. His mother is Lisa Stina Genborg. I can see the relationship connection as it is one of the names at the end of the estate record.

I did look through the Bilagor till in- och utflyttningslängder in the area the book that matches the time frame and I did not find him. It was interesting to look through this book and learn of another way to look at things.

Thanks for helping me. I will have to look at ArkivDigital when I am next at the center.

I have seen Ship records from Gothenburg and I assumed that there would be the same records from Stockholm.
