Problem with accepting answer to question

I have noticed in the German Research community on occasion that a person asks a question, gets a response, thanks the responder, accepts the responder's answer, and it is the original person's thank you response which is marked as "Best Answer" as opposed to the response provided by the responder. I am sure this is unintentional and represents a glitch in the system. Has anyone else noticed this happening in the other community groups?

Not just groups: here's a recent example in the Indexing category.

Looking at my own questions, the interface seems straightforward enough, so it really does seem like it must be a bug rather than repeated user error.

I don't choose best answers, for multiple reasons, so I cannot say one way or the other whether it is a bug.

(One reason I don't choose is the irreversibility of the choice. Another is that in my mind, "did this answer the question?" is a completely different thing than the resulting "best answer" label.)

@Robert Seal_1 The same happened just now on a post I answered today in Search.

Thank you @Julia Szent-Györgyi for your response. I have reported this to a moderator in the German Research community.

    Hello @Julia Szent-Györgyi,

FYI: When I replied to you above thanking you for your response, the system gave me the opportunity to accept my own response with the comment : Did this answer the question? Yes No.

I'm feel certain if I have clicked on "Yes" my response would have been marked as "Best Answer".

Also, when I send this response back to you, it will probably give me the same option again.

This shouldn't happen —correct? Thanks for your response.

It shouldn't, but it does. I've reported it in the past, but I've never had a comment from a mod or a response to the problem. Just conversation among us, the users.
