I have the following names to index:

Badger Adna W

Badger Laura A (Mrs Adna W)

I indexed Adna W. Badger on one record, then indexed Laura A. Badger on a separate record. Do I index a separate record for Mrs. Adna W Badger or just add the "Mrs" on Laura A Badger's record? Thank you.

I would index Mrs. Adna on a separate entry because we don't know (and it's not our job to assume) if Adna is Laura's alias.

The 1910 - 1940 censuses have Laura as Adna's wife. So, I would index it as

    Surname: Badger

    Prefix: Mrs

    Given Name: Laura A

    Spouse's Surname: Badger

    Spouse's Given Name: Adna W

Outside sources are not used in indexing and censuses count as an outside source. Other outside sources include search engines, Wikipedia and other ancestry sites.

Where in the instructions does it say to not use Outside Sources? And…. this source came from this site so it would not be an "outside source."

Censuses are not exclusive to this site. They can be found on multiple genealogical sites and the National Archives.

There will not be outside sources in PI (none in the 10 years I've been here at least…I think), but…

You could also ask @barbaragailsmith1 or @maryellenstevensbarnes1 or @Melissa S Himes (if she was still around. I remember her saying something about hitting 500K indexed records and that she was done) the question, but they'd say the same thing that I did.

Also, the originals of census documents are often inaccurate, for many reasons.
