I have received DNA results from Ancestry and am waiting on results from 23andMe. I am trying to find my father’s birth father. He was adopted by Clark W. Holmes, Sr. and Mozelle Holmes in February 1943. His birthdate was September 4, 1941. He wanted nothing to do with his biological family and forbid my sister and I to research his family while he was alive. According to his birth certificate, his biological mother is Doris Rees Fisher. My DNA gave me a biological first cousin and I have spoken with her. She has not been very helpful in being able to provide information, other than there was a rumor that her grandmother, my dad’s biological mother, was given to the produce man, but nobody remembers her being pregnant. She also said there was another rumor that there was a girl given away. We do know that my first cousin’s grandfather was NOT the biological father of my dad. He was in prison at the time for kidnapping his oldest daughter and taking her as a bride. In fact, my dad’s youngest half-sibling, can’t be from the same father because he was born within a month before his father’s imprisonment. My biological grandmother, Doris, was born in England and came to the US when she was 3 and lived in Pennsylvania until after her first marriage and then moved to Pine Castle, Orlando, Florida where the majority of her family still lives. Ironically, she and some of her present day family live within 5 minutes of my cousin on my mom’s side of the family. Also, ironically, her great grandmother was from Charleston, SC and we left Florida when I was 7 and moved to SC.
I have hit a brick wall in finding the birth father. If anyone has a suggestion, I’m willing to hear it. Also, the hospital he was supposedly born at burned down, so we can’t get records of his birth. All we have was a birth certificate but my mother did something with it while suffering from Alzheimer’s and it cannot be located again.Help?0
