US, Ohio—Naturalization Records, 1912–1922 [Part C][MQ5Z-23K]
As the instructions say to index all documents relating to the naturalization process, where there is a Petition of Naturalization with an Affidavits of Petitioner and Witnesses on the same page, are we to create a separate entry for the Affidavits of Petitioner and Witnesses? If so, is the same record number used or no record number for the second entry?

The only thing we take from that part of the Petition is the date at the very bottom for the record date. Everything else is not indexed. You will need to delete entry 2 on Image 1.

Oh, I don't know. Probably from 10 years of indexing and the 8393434 Nat projects I've worked. AOW's have never been indexed in any project. AOW's, when attached to the PET, are not individual documents. The only time that Witness statements are indexed is when it's a deposition of the witnesses, which are stand-alone documents.

@erutherford, where did you find such instructions, and how do you reconcile them with the initial popup and the "what to index" section, which say to index everything? This project is specifically pointed out to be different from the other naturalization projects, so we can't use the "what to index" instructions from those.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I realize we use the AOW for the record date on the Petition for Naturalization. What if the affidavit of witnesses is on the following page and not at the bottom of the Pet for naturalization? Often the only date if the AOW is not on the same page is the date they arrived in the US. I just did one where the AOW was actually in the next batch so I used the tool to let me find the date on the following page. Am I doing that correctly or do I mark the record date blank if the AOW is not on the same page? ie. Image Name105978852_00340Batch IDMQ5G-ZD1

I just reread the projected instructions again regarding the AOW and it does say to index them.
- For this project, please index additional document types including certificates of arrival, certificates of examination, affidavits of witnesses, and depositions. This is an exception and should not be applied to other naturalization projects.

You will index the AOW date whether or not it is on the same page. The PET changed about 1940-41.
Image 1's date is 6/3/42 and Image 4's date is 6/4/42; it's on the +1 Reference Image. What belongs to the next batch is the OOA on Image 4.1 -
AOW that are attached to PETs are not indexed. The AOW is indexed when it is its own document as it's completely different from the AOW that is on the PET. That AOW is a summary that A and B gave interrogations/depositions (affidavits) in favor of the petitioner becoming a citizen.

That is the way I have been doing them. So with Batch Image Name105978852_01003Batch IDMQ5G-ZVP
So for Image 3 my Date of Record would be 22 Jul 1942. The Oath of Allegiance has been x'd out, therefore
should the AOW be indexed or should this image be marked "No extractable date"?

I think I just answered my last question myself, We are to index an oath of allegiance whether or not the petition was accepted or denied. I will index the Oof A .
