Absolutely not. Everyone is welcome to register for a free account at Familysearch.org. Here is a link to an article that has more information. https://familysearch.org/ask/productSupport#/About-FamilySearch

    @Norman Webb

    .

    Norman

    .

Firstly, "Welcome" to "FamilySearch"; and, also this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    .

Secondly, I am just another User/Patron of "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" (and, happen to be a Member of the Church).

Many Users/Patrons who participate in this Forum have a great deal of knowledge and experience with "FamilySearch"; and, like to assist/help other Users/Patrons like yourself.

Finally, just to emphasise a particular important part (concept) of the "Knowledge Article" being "What is the purpose of FammilySearch and Family Tree" as provided by @MEDoran ...

    .

There is "No", MY 'Tree"; or, YOUR 'Tree', in/with "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" - it is OUR 'Tree' ...

    .

A SINGLE "One" World 'Tree' - for all of us.

    .

"Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" is NOT like a number of other INTERNET 'Web' Sites where you/we have a PRIVATE 'Tree'.

    .

"Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" is an "Open Edit" Platform; in other words, for DECEASED individuals/persons in "Family Tree", ANY User/Patron of "Family Tree" can ADD and EDIT/CHANGE, any information that had been included with the DECEASED individuals/persons by any other User/Patron.

    .

In "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch", WE (any User/Patron) can add "Living" individuals/persons (usually immediate Family) to connect to the "Deceased" individuals/persons in "Family Tree".

    .

Whereas, those "Living" individuals/persons (usually immediate Family) that WE (any User/Patron) create in "Family Tree" can ONLY be seen by the User/Patron who created that "Living" individuals/persons (usually immediate Family) - NO other User/Patron can see those records - they are in what is termed our/your "Private Spaces".

    .

I just wanted to emphasise the concept of a SINGLE "One" World 'Tree' for all of us; as, that concept is quite often not understood by new Users/Patrons to "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".

    .

I truly hope you get as much enjoyment with using "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" as I have - I have connected up with (and, even met) MANY "Living" Relatives, researching along my Ancestral lines, all around the WORLD, using "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".

    .

    I hope this helps.

    .

    Brett
