I need help finding birth records, where can I look?

I have family members that were born in Kentucky. The courthouse had a fire and birth records were destroyed. Is there a national record of births that I can search? Any other suggestions? The family members were born in a "home for unwed mothers" so I don't think a church would have any records.

The FamilySearch Wiki is a great place to learn about what records exist, where they can be found, or what substitutes may help. https://www.familysearch.org/en/wiki/Kentucky_Vital_Records

You don't mention a time period - many states did not keep vital records before the 20th century.
