Can we use the Christening date for the Birthdate - we know infants are usually christened within days or weeks of birth? US, Alaska—Church Records, 1816–1970[MQGK-FQH]

I see you have repeated your query in a later post. The suggestion made by erutherford is to enter the christening date in the "Baptism" field. That's assuming there is such a heading in this batch. Otherwise, no - I do not find that infants were necessarily baptised / christened soon after birth. This "assumption" is only made in Family Tree - where the baptism / christening event is used (at the top of the page) in place of the birth date, if that vital is blank on the individual's profile.

I wasn't baptized until I was six months old. They can be baptized at birth or a few days old. When the baptism occurs is usually left to the parents.

In 1816, a baptism/christening date might be the closest you can get to a recorded birthdate for a person. In 1970, not so much.

Luckily, it is not the indexer's job to make that decision. If what's recorded is a christening date, and the project includes births and baptisms, index it as the date of baptism and mark the birth blank.
