Family History Center Records won't open

Tonight I visited my local family history center to look at Cook County IL death records. I have viewed these records a month ago in the center, but had a new name to look up tonight. Much to my surprise, the records opened with each image having a padlock and a message in the center of the screen saying I needed to be at a Family Search History Center or a Family Search Library Affiliate to view the image. The staff member used his cell to call Salt Lake City for support. He has been very helpful and remembered me from my earlier visits. We were bounced to two different people, one who told me that perhaps I needed to be physically in Salt Lake to view the record. I explained I had looked at these records a month ago without any problem. She said perhaps the contracts had been changed and that I should use a free 20 minute consultation available thru the library. I asked if they would find the record and provide a copy and she said yes. But I see on your website that this is not allowed. I think something was incorrectly configured tonight on the computer and it was not being recognized any differently from my home computer, but I don't know what to do about it. Its the family history center in Normal IL.

Problems have been reported with opening records for the last few days. Numerous collections were affected. Here's one thread about the current/recent issues:

I was, however, at my Affiliate Library on Monday and opened Cook County death records without a problem.

The padlock has appeared on some records recently. I've reported it a few times, and there is a thread here in the Community where we have discussed it. I haven't seen a satisfactory explanation as yet. It seems to be connected to records that have been edited. There are confirmed problems using the new editor/viewer interface.

Here's one thread discussing the padlock -

If you want to share the Cook County record(s) you need, I'll be happy to retrieve when I next visit my Affiliate Library.

thank you. The record is a death record of Sarah Lusky who died on 1 April 1911. Looking for cause of death and if it contains her parents or where she was born. I am going to return to the Library again and see if it is corrected. Very frustrating.

According to the index, the record does not list the names of her parents. Some of the 1911 Cook County death records I have in my collection have the names of parents, but, generally, if the names are on the record, they appear in the index.

There will be cause of death.

I will be happy to retrieve a copy on my next visit. I've put it on my list.

I've been to my Affiliate Library, and I have the death certificate you wanted.
