AO Genvej - I just added a link
This is a great resource bookshelf and access to the church books and census records.
The down arrow on the right takes you to other resources.
It is my favorite way to access the Danish church books and census records because the place and range of the book are in a banner near the top of the page. This makes it easier to write the sources.
Now if I only knew how to use those books to their best advantage🙂

Another great site to know about! Poeple researching their Danish ancestry sure have a plethora of sites to access just the church records--Arkivalieronline, FamilySearch, DanishFamilySearch, and now this one.
Do you know, out of curiosity--with respect to the church books, does this site have the pastor's or clerks books, or both? Can you give a little explanation?
Thanks!

If I am interpreting the info correctly most of these are the clerk books
They are noted with a (KM) not an (EM) in most of them.

Great, thanks!
And I see that you have added this site as a link off to the right on this page. Everyone who lets us know of a website should do that!

I use each of these sites and have found what I believe to be their strengths - at least relative to my skills.
I like to use Danish Family Search for the pre-1860 census records (you can search by given names or by surnames) and to explore the names of small places in a parish and their proximity to each other.
I like to use MyHeritage for later census records and have better success if I search an individual census with an exact birthdate. If I can´t find them in MyHeritage that is often an indication of emigration. However, I find that My Heritage has inadequately identified the places for my taste and in some of their census years they have removed the non-household pages that tell you where they are. So I use MyHeritage to help me find them quickly and then I go to AO Genvej to write my source. It is the same image. It is an extra step, but it helps me write exactly where this record can be found instead of just giving me a general idea and a URL. I find the MyHeritage trees can be useful. They do not tend to be very well documented but if I really don´t have any leads and find a tree for someone with some undocumented details, I can explore and evaluate that tree.
I used to use Arkivalieronline, but then they changed all their URL´s and I found AO Genvej was easy for me to use. I do use Arkivalieronline for the military records. I am not very good with probate records, but I think that will be the resource.
AO Genvej has the same records as Arkivalieronline as far as church books and census records go. I really do like that heading near the top that shows me exactly where in the record I am. Their opslag numbers are not always exactly the same as Arkivalieronline, but they are close. I think the AO Genvej bookshelf is amazing, but have to admit that I haven´t used it very effectively. I need to advance my skills in the language.

Thanks for the detail on how you use the various sites. This is very helpful. I hope that everyone who does Danish research reads this and then uses this info to make a decision on what works best for them.

You might want to have a look at the handouts from the Danish Probate series that Naomi Newbold (Accredited Genealogist for Denmark) did at the FHL a few years ago. Unfortunately, the webinars themselves are lost, but the handouts are still there and are very useful.
Have a look at this link:
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Family_History_Library_Classes_and_Webinars
scroll down to Past Webinars and Handouts
then click on Nordic Research Webinars & Handouts
Then Denmark, then choose Danish Probate Records.
Even without the webinars, the handouts are still very useful.

Thanks Fritz, I have used those handouts as my guide to probates.
They really are helpful.
My major limitation is language skills. Probates have so many words I don´t know.

Here is a great site on the FS wiki that has basic info on Danish probate records. More importantly, it has an extensive wordlist AND two links to the two other Danish probate wordlists on the FS Wiki. Why the FS wiki has 3, yes 3, Danish probate wordlists is a mystery, but it does. Maybe something can combine them some day.
Anyway, since vocabulary is your major limitation, maybe these will help.

Fritz, what are the 3 word lists? I don't think I've seen all 3... Maybe they can be combined...

I forgot to post the link:
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Denmark_Probate_Records#.7CProbate_Word_List
Within this one, there are two other links. Here they are:
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Danish_Probate_Language
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Denmark_Probate_word_list
Yes, they should be combined. I wonder if there is anyone on this list who knows Danish well and works with the Wiki?
