Hello,

I've noticed while searching through this dataset, that there's a number of errors with location data. This has been pointed out in the past four years, since this dataset was being indexed. A good example is the Palmerson Electorate - that was centered on Palmerston North, the city in the Manawatu, not Otago, however there's a great deal of records with people placed in Otago (where the town of Palmerston is), rather than Manawatu. This is only one of many. Is there any active work going on to fix this, is there a time-frame for completion?

It really makes the dataset a tad irrelevant if it's not going to be as accurate as it could be. Which reminds me, when these records were indexed, the instructions implied there'd be a lot more information made available than names, dates and basic locations, which is all that's viewable now. It's not terribly useful for find much, other than people with similiar names. I guess that's part of the contract, but it seems a bit limiting… being able to see who else lived at the same address at least would be a vast improvement. As it is, it's impossible to use this particular dataset to cross-reference or corroborate anything else.

I sound a bit complainy, I don't mean to be!

Thanks

    @MalxEllis

    Have you tried viewing the record set while at your nearest FamilySearch Center or Affiliate Library? According to the notice, you can view the images there. And I agree that would likely be much more useful.

    Image Available

    To view these images do one of the following:

    • Access the site at a FamilySearch center.
    • Access the site at a FamilySearch affiliate library.

    If you don't have an FSC or AL nearby, I'll be happy to retrieve some images for you on my next visit. My AL is only a couple of miles away, and I visit most weeks.

    Happy hunting!

    Hi Áine,

    Yes, I'm aware I could do that, although there are public libraries that are closer to where I live that have Electoral Rolls too. I'm really pushing more for the Index locations to be corrected. As-is, they'll be giving people very strange ideas about where their ancestors lived.

    Thanks for your offer, that very kind.

    In my experience, FamilySearch does not revisit indexing projects.
