How to change status from living to deceased of someone who entered their own record into FS.

My friend, who is LDS, passed away on April 13th of this year. I promised his sister I would changed his status from living to deceased but I cannot see his record because he entered his own record himself. I am also LDS and entered a new record for him hoping a duplicate would show up and I could merge the two records but that has not happened. What can I do to retrieve his original record? He has had all ordinances except for sealing to his previous wife.

I believe the ward clerk will need to change the status on his church account to deceased. That sometimes can take a while.
