Through the Jewish genealogy website, I have found that a microfilm exists that may have my grandfather's birth record. The file number is 1739393, and the film is Utah. The film has not been uploaded to the internet. Barring a trip to Salt Lake, is there a way to find this microfilm? And where would the original be?

As suggested above, it will be available for you or someone else to view in SLC.
Just yesterday, I emailed a friend in Utah to look up a similarly designated record, and I received the copy this morning.

Film 1739393 contains records as recent as 1945, making it restricted for the privacy of the living.

All microfilm has been digitized. The reel icon now means that it is restricted from online viewing. See this article for a definition of the film notes.

You can hope a volunteer, in Utah, sees this post and offers to help. Or, you can look for a volunteer or paid researcher on Cyndi's List.

    Best of luck.

Thank you for your prompt an informative response.

I noted this in your link:

"If any items on a film have restrictions, FamilySearch must restrict all the items because portions of the digitized film have custodian restrictions. We cannot make any portion of it available." Does that mean that I can't even go to Utah to see it?
