1910 and 1920 census have inaccurate place names. Why?

Every day I encounter more problems with family search. I've worked on the profile of Nelson Good, who lived in Grand Valley, Colorado in 1910 and 1920. This has been changed to Parachute, Colorado in Family Search, and you can't change it back because Grand Valley is apparently no longer an approved place name even though that was its legal name for decades, from 1908 until the 1980s. It took old timers like me a heck of a long time to switch to calling it Parachute instead of Grand Valley, but now that name has taken over your records. I accept that you created census citations that no longer lead directly to a person's name unless I change the citation, and which are inferior to the complete ones you used to have; I accept that you can decide that Denver is an independent city (whatever that means) when I report that it is the City and County of Denver instead of Arapahoe county after 1902--I mean, if you don't want those things to be accurate and better, oh, well. But now all the place names are being changed and made inaccurate--all the ones I reported in earlier years, like Denver's and Parachute's being wrong.

I'm so sorry Judy. I share your unhappiness with the way things are changing (not just here, but other places as well), and wanted to let you know that someone has heard you and can relate to what you are saying (and feeling).
