How do I edit a Birth to a Christening?
Since I come across so few records that are editable, I would be grateful for advice on this - accepting that making such edits might not be a good idea at present, judging by problems reported by other users.
A whole collection of records has been indexed as births and I wondered if somebody could describe the procedure for correcting these (individually), so they can be correctly shown as christenings.
Here is a URL that includes some of the records that need to be edited. As can be seen in the screenshot, I appear to have messed things up by deleting the "Birth" details for John Bedford, but not being able to reclassify the event as a Christening.
Any advice would be gratefully received!
BTW - John Bedford's record has now shifted to page 2 (of 2) of the Results pages, in between Marriage results, instead of the ones for Births (that should be Christenings) shown in the screenshot!

I'm afraid that in figuring out the explanation/directions, I ended up just doing it on John Bedford's index entry. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QLB9-MF4N
So let's do Jane Bedford instead. Her index detail page (which I got to by right-clicking her name in the search results from your link and choosing "new tab") is https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QLB9-XNY6.
(It's already attached in the Tree, so I'm willing to risk making the entry disappear by editing the wrong thing.) On that detail page, I click the "Edit" button in the middle of the black stripe to invoke the new viewer-and-editor. Coming at it from here, it should have her entry in the right-hand panel, where I can find where it says "Birth" and click the pencil next to that.
The top drop-down list on the resulting panel is the event type.
The list is loooong, but luckily it's alphabetical, and "Christening" is not too far further down than "Birth".
So I select "Christening", and then it's just a matter of clicking the blue button at the bottom to save my change.
...and whaddayaknow, I've gone and done it again: I clicked the button and saved my change. I meant to leave it unsaved, really I did!
So I guess you'll have to find your own "victim" to try it on. Sorry!

Just to acknowledge your efforts before logging off for the night, Julia - thanks.
I'll see if there's been any other participation in this issue when I log on again tomorrow morning (UK time), otherwise will have another attempt along the path you have illustrated, accepting your indication that this might not be so straightforward as I had hoped.
Fortunately, these are only very distantly related individuals, so not too much personal worry if the births "disappear" for now and can't be substituted with christenings that can be made to stick!

Sorry, I misunderstood you and thought that the change(s) you made did not stick.
My attempts yesterday involved me trying to highlight the event on the image, but I followed your instructions and see I just had to work from the panel on the right side of the page to get the "Birth" (I worked on William Cave Bedford) to change to the correct "Christening" description of the event.
Thank you again - I was going about this (trying to edit via the image) in a way that seems to apply when making corrections to US census entries, but see I was over-complicating the necessary procedure for cases like the one I had encountered here.
Will now make similar edits for the rest of the family.
UPDATE - just completed the exercise for the family at Whittlesey. Found it interesting how the time varied for the Results page to update from Birth to Christening: on one or two occasions the update was there immediately I returned to the page, but for the other individuals it took two or three minutes before the change appeared.
