Can you request copies of a family book?

I recently found a complete collection of part of my family history and my question is if you can request a copy for your own records? If you can, do you send a proof of relationship to prove that you're related?

Is this a book that is held by the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City? Have you checked to see if the book has been digitized?

The library used to have a service that allowed us to request pages from certain books, but that service has ended. You may be able to request a volunteer or a paid researcher to do the look-up for you.

It's also possible other libraries hold copies of the book. Check worldcat.org, archive.org, and Google books for possible online access.

This book is at the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City in the United States and Canada section. It's a 6 volume manuscript that has various artifacts. Newspaper clippings, pedigree charts, death records etc. The author is from Clara Charlotte Buhr Matthias if you want to look at it. Here are the group # of that collection: 8252684,8252685, and 8252686

It's been digitized and you can view it online. It's not even restricted to FamilySearch Centers or Affiliate Libraries.

Just click/tap on the camera icon to view the pages of the book. https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/329776

About a month ago I found a six-volume book on a part of my branch and all of it was digitized and I was going to go back to it but all but one has a microfilm icon on it. Also I have not had any luck with my local affiliate library. I tried to set up an appointment and got no call back and I left my contact information.

If you want to share the specifics of the book, someone may be able to help. Many books are available on other sites or may be available in hard copy at a nearby library.

The first two have a microfilm icon and the last one has the camera.

The link posted above by @Áine Ní Donnghaile https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/329776

I get catalogue details which differ from those in the screen shot posted above, in line with that mentioned by Nathan, the first two with a microfilm icon, and the camera for the third, meaning available on home computers.

I am not a LDS church member, and I am in Australia. Unless access conditions have changed since September, it appears Áine has more access. Perhaps this is geographically related?

@MaureenE123 Access has apparently changed in the last few days as I no longer see camera icons on all 3 volumes.

So what can I do so I can continue to review these items?

I've been to one research center researching a different issue and I didn't get a lot of help. And I called another affiliate research center and I left my contact information but I got no callback. Instead of trying a research center would an affiliated library be my best option?

Based on the icons, those volumes will not be available at either an affiliate library or an FSC.

You can try contacting one of the services that is based in SLC. They are not connected with FamilySearch. https://www.cyndislist.com/us/ut/professionals/
