How do I deal with children from a first wife when linking from a census?
The first wife is deceased and the second wife is listed as mother on the document I am trying to attach. I have fixed it so that the correct children are with their birth mother in the family tree. But I'm getting errors when linking from the census.
For example, Elwood and Ida had 3 children and Ida died in 1932. Elwood married Ethel in 1934 and had 7 more children. On 1940 census, the source linker is giving me errors when I try to link children. They were linked under Ida (as birth mother) but Ida wasn't linked in 1940 census bc she was dead.
Maybe I need to keep straightening out these children. They were entered 3 times I believe, all 10 under Ida, then under Ethel and then under an "unnamed mother." That may be why I having problems with linking the census. I know I have had children from a first wife to deal with before!

You attach the children from the view of the parent. So on the step mothers's view of source attacher you cannot add the step children, but if you go to the father view in source linker you can add his children, just select the correct spouse (mother) the children fall under. I hope that makes sense0
Thank you Cindy! I will work on that census from the father's record!0
