Give and opportunity to immediate family
Keep deceased people on the Private People list for 18 months subsequent to their death, thereby allowing immediate family to take care of temple ordinances.
The reason for this request is my mother passed almost a year ago (August 31) . I have appointments in place to do her temple work (September 2) and went to put the requests in on Family Search.com only to find duplicates from people I've never heard of in the family and without any public record substantiation (which I am very particular about) thus I had to take care of that and pick through the duplicates to make certain incorrect data was not introduced to my mother's file.
Many member of the church weren't raised in lds families so when a member of your close family passes, One wants to do the work for them. In a way it's part of the grieving process.
It felt like an invasion of privacy and intrusion into our private family relationships. It would have broken my heart if some stranger to me, did my mother's work a day prior to me.
By creating this transition time period it gives latter day saints that weren't raised in the church an opportunity to do the work for their close family. To give them peace.
Thank you for your consideration of this idea.
