I think it is time for you to remove the message system.

It does no good to have a message system that does not link the message back to the record it was sent from.

Every time I think you have it fixed it works for a week or so, then not again.

OR is these problem caused because I use Firefox and the cookies are doing this to me?

OR maybe the programmers can put the record number message is sent from directly into the subject field, or message field.

The beta site is always a good place to see upcoming changes to the website that are getting closer to being released. If you check there, you will see that apparently the message system is close to being replaced by a chat system:

So there may not be much work going on for a permanent fix to the problems you are seeing in the messaging system.

In the new chat system in beta, if you click on a user name anywhere you see it and click Chat, the first message in the chat is a notice of where you are messaging from and is a live link that takes you directly to that spot.

Here I started the message from a person's Change Log:

Notice there is no longer an About box as in the current system:

Here I started from a person's Detail page:

In both cases, clicking on that first message took me to the Change Log and Detail page respectively.

Thank you Gordon for the heads-up. Will check it out in beta.

Will the new software reach out of the screen and grab the recipient warmly by the throat if they don't respond? 😉

But that's actually a serious point - to me, a major part of the problem is people not responding. I'd prefer FS to indulge in some psychological work to persuade people to respond before writing even more code. Unless the chat will be more, err, obtrusive for the recipient. 😏

I received a message this morning, and it contained a link to the profile the contributor was asking about. So, for me, today, it's working.

Yes, it has been working okay for me recently, but - as stated - this is inclined to be a problem that comes and goes. Also, haven't previous reports suggested the link isn't active if you message from certain parts of the profile? Just meant to be an example (not a suggestion of the actual problem), but if - say - a message is sent from the Change Log page, rather than the Details page?

I just looked back on all recent messages and the only ones that have no links are where the sender has inserted their own text in the ABOUT: field.
