I have not been able to view my family tree for two days. Has this happened to anyone? If so, what is the solution?

Thank you in advance.

Are you able to log in? What exactly is happening? Are you getting an error message when you try to view the FamilySearch Family Tree?

This has happened tome also. I have no solution.

When trying to view, the screen blanks for a while, shows the navigation rows for a fraction of a second, and then blanks again. This continues to cycle with no tree ever appearing.

@Thomas Michael Bartold Have you tried using a different browser to access FamilySearch? What happens then? If you can view the site using a different browser, then clearing your cache and cookies in your preferred browser should clear the problem.

The various Tree views are being updated. I wonder if this has caused some issues. What view are you using? Can you attach a screenshot of what you see?

Sorry I have not replied, I couldn't find this discussion again ( I have it bookmarked now).

I have only one browser, so I've been using that. Firefox for Ubuntu. I have tried using every configuration I could think of, and cleared caches, cleared cookies, reinstalled etc. I keep it up to date with automatic updates. It is currently version 114.0.2 running on Ubuntu 20.04.1 which is also kept up-to-date.

The "Tree" link in the second navigation bar leads to https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree which eventually lead to https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/LDQW-YXD

The "View Tree" link on a person page leads to (for example) https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/LL76-DWJ which eventually leads to https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/landscape/LL76-DWJ

I guess I am using "landscape" view since that is what's in the URL. I haven't selected a view, nor do I see any way of doing so. I did try changing "landscape" to "portrait" in the URL (it seemed like it should be an option), but I still have the same problem.

What browser would you suggest I try installing? i.e. which browser is most likely going to work?

The view options for the tree are in a drop-down in the New View.

In the old view, it's similar but slightly different.

Since I don't use Ubuntu, I won't make a browser recommendation. Perhaps another member using Ubuntu has a suggestion.

I found this link on the sitemap: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/fanchart

Using it I am able to see a fan chart, and can see the dropdown list, however, selecting the landscape or portrait option from that list causes the same problem.

Try clearing your cache and FamilySearch site-specific cookies. Normally, that will clear up any nagging problems.

Like I said before, I've tried clearing the cache and cookies. I've reinstalled the program, and the problem persists. At least I've found a way to go directly to the fan chart, although I've not tried navigating using it yet.

Is there a link I can try to get to the "old pedigree view"?

"reinstalled the program" - are you using the app? That is different from using FamilySearch in a browser.

    No, I reinstalled Firefox.

If you are in the New Pedigree View, in the top right, there is a blue link to "Go Back to Old Pedigree."

You might also try using Firefox safe/troubleshooting mode, just in case some extension or add-on is causing the issue.

It's not clear from the description of the problem what parts of the screen (if any) actually successfully populate. Here's what it should look like (this is Firefox, but in Windows):

    image.png

And here's the link if I change the dropdown from Landscape to Fan Chart: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/pedigree/fanchart/LL76-DWJ. Does that work for you?

Unfortunately, the switch between the old and new pedigree views is handled somewhere other than the URL, so if that "Go Back" link is among the things that don't load, then I haven't a clue how to solve the chicken-and-egg problem.

I'm guessing that the "old pedigree view" link only appears when viewing landscape or portrait mode, which I cannot. The link does not appear in fan chart, descendancy, or first ancestor mode.

All normal pages have a link to the "landscape" URL. So yes, I can view the fanchart by physically altering the URL with a copy/paste/edit/enter. However that makes navigating the tree extremely tedious.

Here's couple screenshots. With one nav bar:

And with just the rotating circle:

@Thomas Michael Bartold Do you have any adblockers installed? AdBlock, uBlock, MalWareBytes Browser Guard are known to keep some elements of the FamilySearch pages from displaying properly

I get the same result with or without any adblockers. I get the same result with "safe" mode, and with nothing installed.

There must be a way to get back to the old pedigree tree. That worked flawlessly.

@Thomas Michael Bartold, there's a Group for the new pedigree views (https://community.familysearch.org/en/group/320-tree-pedigree-views); perhaps you need to join it and post a report of the problem you're having, because I think the developers need to know about it.

(Yes, the old/new switch only applies to the pedigree views, so it doesn't appear on the other chart types.)

@Julia Szent-Györgyi, thank you. I did join that group in May and added to discussion there, but received no replies. I started a new discussion there, today, in hopes that it might be noticed.
